-- "A Man Whose Politics We hate" was the title of the piece by Dr.
Sami Nasser Khalifa that appeared in moderate Arabic daily Al-Rai
Al-Aam (9/4):

"The unfairness of the American Administration toward Arabs and
Muslims has reached an unprecedented point. The rule in the region
gone from domestic tyranny and despotism to international tyranny
and despotism. We are now governed by the logic of the jungle where
the strong eats the weak. We hate the policies of this man
[President Bush].

-- In "Defeatists to the Grave" Adel Hassan Dashti commented in
moderate Arabic daily Al-Rai Al-Aam (9/4):

"How could any honorable person not feel happiness for their
(Hezbollah) resistance, struggle, and victory? Any writer who mocks
the victory of Nasrallah, his men, and the entire nation . . . will
never see victory in his life."

-- Under the title "Existential Struggle Not Over Soldiers" Thamer
Saad Al-Saweet contended in moderate Arabic daily Al-Rai Al-Aam
(9/4):

"The lack of humanity in the American instrument called the U.N.
Security Council makes double standards acceptable. The United
States alone gets to decide what is legitimate and what is not. It
decides what is terrorism and what is resistance, and it determines
what is humanitarian and what is not. It colors the actions of
people with what fits its outlook and interests."

-- In "The Syrian Occupation of Lebanon" Mifrij Salem Al-Dosary
penned in moderate Arabic daily Al-Watan (9/4):

"Saddam's Ba'th in Iraq and Basahr's Ba'th in Syria are two faces to
the same coin. But this coin buys only repression, murder, torture,
mutilation, displacement, and imprisonment. The Syrian Ba'thist
occupation of Lebanon is no different from Saddam's occupation of
Kuwait."

-- "Nasrallah and the Price of Transparency" was the title of Abdul
Khaliq Mullah Jumah's piece in progressive Arabic daily Al-Qabas
(9/4):

"Some took a sentence said in an interview by the Secretary-General
of Hezbollah Mr. Hassan Nasrallah and interpreted it as meaning that
he did not expect a Zionist reaction of such magnitude. Surely,
this transparent statement came during the special circumstances of
Mr. Nasrallah speaking before satellite channels when he made the
declaration despite a lack of preparation for the interview."

-- Under the title "Israeli Terrorism in Lebanon" Abdul Latif Saif
Al-Atiqi held in progressive Arabic daily Al-Qabas that (9/4):

"America and Israel do not adhere to international laws except for
those that serve their interests. This overt and apparent
disparagement and transgression on international laws against Arab
and Islamic peoples corroborates the truth . .."
