Monday, August 21, 2006

-- In "How Resistance Should Be" Haitham Hamad Al-Shaei held in
progressive Arabic daily Al-Qabas that (8/21):

"It [Arab resistance] means much more than simply raising slogans
and photos in the media. It is a matter of being part of this
fast-moving world. The Arab resistance we seek and desperately need
is a resistance with ideas, technology, and education."

-- Ghazy Al-Jassim wrote "Enough of Messing with Lebanon and Its
People" in progressive Arabic daily Al-Qabas where he stated
(8/21):

"What is incomprehensible is Hezbollah. Is hands are tied and it is
unable to free itself from an Iranian-Syrian alliance, which seeks
to undermine the Lebanese state and the Lebanese armed forces. As
for that palace in Beirut, we hear nothing out of it other than
cries, screams, and accusations. Rather, it should be gathering all
Lebanese factions and classes to decide the future of their country
instead than awaiting for orders from outside."

-- Under the title "The Great Victory" in progressive Arabic daily
Al-Qabas Abdul Aziz Abdul Karim Al-Hindal commented (8/21):

"It was a great victory when the legend of the unconquerable
[Israeli] army fell; when the glory of the great power [USA] was
tarnished and its plan for the new Middle East foiled. It was a
great victory when the balance of horror in the region changed in
favor of the faithful resistance and against tyrannical power."

-- In "Victory Delusions" Dr. Ahmed Bishara inquired in progressive
Arabic daily Al-Qabas (8/21):

"The general public was swept away with words such as 'dignity' and
'resilience.' No one asked themselves why resilience, under whose
orders, or why people should suffer and have their lives destroyed
just so they can discover their ego."

-- "Hezbollah's Arms: Where To?" was the title of Abdul Hussein
Al-Sultan's piece in which he penned (8/21):

"The danger of disarming the resistance is underscored by the recent
painful experience of our brothers in Lebanon. Arabs -- under
American, European, and Israeli pressure -- disarmed the Palestinian
resistance and expelled it from Lebanon in the early eighties.
Afterwards, Palestine surrendered and was forced into peaceful
solutions without a power card with which to negotiate, thereby
forcing it to succumb to all Zionist wishes."

-- Under the title "A Lesson in the Lebanon Crisis" Kuwait
University Political Science Professor, Dr. Shamlan Yousef Al-Issa
editorialized in pro-government daily (8/21):

"Hezbollah's success is due to its presence with the people in their
homes, schools, hospitals, places of worship, and mosques. Through
its generous services for the public, Hezbollah has created an
natural bond between the leadership and the populous. This
relationship was not severed by Israeli attempts to destroy the
Lebanese infrastructure. Rather it strengthened the bond between
the people and Hezbollah."
