8/802/7

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade presents it
compliments to the Embassy of the United States of America and has
the honour to request that the following congratulatory message from
the Most Honourable Portia Simpson Miller, Prime Minister of
Jamaica, be forwarded to the President of the United States of
America, Honourable George W. Bush.

"The Government and People of Jamaica join me in extending sincere
congratulations and best wishes to the Government and People of the
United States of America on the occasion of your 230th anniversary
of Independence.

As Americans everywhere celebrate this special day in their
country's history, they can feel justly proud of the significant
achievements of the United States in the process of nation-building
and its economic and social development. The legacy of the fourth
of July has become universal and assumes a special and different
significance in each corner of the world. Here in Jamaica, we join
with you in celebrating such a legacy by recommitting ourselves to
the struggle for economic prosperity, social stability and justice.

Over the years, our two countries have enjoyed close and mutually
beneficial relations, based on our shared values, adherence to
democracy and the rule of law. In this vein, Jamaica remains
strongly committed to maintaining dynamic and vibrant relations with
the United States, and to working actively towards this goal in an
atmosphere of dialogue, mutual respect and understanding. At the
regional and multilateral levels it is our hope that we will
continue our joint efforts to address the challenges on the
hemispheric and global agendas.

Please accept our best wishes for peace and prosperity for the
people of the United States of America."

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade avails itself of
this opportunity to renew to the Embassy of the United States of
America the assurances of its highest consideration.
