1. (C) In a brief meeting with SE Natsios on December 10, UK
Ambassador-at-large for Sudan Peace Processes Christopher
Prentice expressed his government's reticence at using
coercive measures to induce the Sudanese government to accept
an international peace-keeping force. Prentice said there
had been "a slight intake of breath" in London at the
prospect of advancing "Plan B" by January 1, 2007.
2. (C) Prentice advised that the USG would find more support
for a step-by-step process along the lines of the UN
Sec retary General's phased approach and requested that SE
Natsios discuss the way forward in more detail with UK
Sec retary of State for International Development Hillary Benn
during a visit to London. He also noted that London believed
that efforts to engage the Darfur Peace Agreement (DPA)
non-signatories had been neglected and should receive renewed
attention.
3. (SBU) SE Natsios' staff cleared this message.
