SUBJECT: OSAC STEERING COMMITTEE NOMINEES IN PLACE
1. (SBU) In a March 27 meeting with RSO and Emboff, Sandip
Shah of Bhote Koshi Power Company, N.N. Singh of Coca-Cola,
and Sayed Karim of the American Life Insurance Company
agreed to be nominees for the steering committee of
Kathmandu's first Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC).
Per the draft OSAC charter agreement, the three-person
steering committee will have to be approved by a vote of
members that will occur at the first OSAC general members
meeting to be held on April 20 in a Kathmandu hotel. Mr.
Singh volunteered to make arrangements and cover expenses for
the April 20 meeting. It was announced at the meeting that
Blair Johannessen, OSAC Coordinator for South and Central
Asia, planned to come from Washington to lead the April 20
meeting. All three steering committee nominees expressed
enthusiasm for OSAC to start and undertook to publicize the
April 20 meeting. Participants at the April 20 meeting will
vote on the steering committee and vote and approve an OSAC
charter, a draft of which was given to the steering committee
nominees.
