1. (SBU) On June 16, Emboff delivered reftel talking points
about APHIS' proposal to establish criteria for more
effective approval of imports of certain fruits and
vegetables into the U.S. to Ganesh K.C., Secretary, Ministry
of Agriculture and Cooperatives; Prachanda Man Shrestha,
Joint Secretary, Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and
Supplies; and Raja Ram Bhartola, Desk Officer, America's
Desk, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Secretary K.C. was
grateful for the information and agreed to review the
information on the web link given in the talking points.
Joint Secretary Shrestha commented that, although Nepal's
mango production was down this year, perhaps in the future
Nepal could benefit from the proposed easier import
regulations for certain fruits and vegetables.
