Indonesia by Palestinian Authority Foreign Minister Mahmud
Al-Zahar, Indonesian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda told
the Ambassador June 1 that he had been surprised by the
rigidity of Al-Zahar's "hard-line positions." Wirajuda said
he urged the Palestinians to resume peaceful negotiations,
but Al-Zahar dismissed this possibility and stated that the
Oslo accord and subsequent interim agreements were not
relevant: Al-Zahar went so far as to characterize such
agreements "not as a peace process, but aprocess to tear"

Al-Zahar's attitude to an anecdote Al-Zaha told about the
bombing of his house by an Israei F-16 that killed his 23
year-old son and injurd his wife and daughter. Wirajuda
claimed to hav advocated peaceful Palestinian-Israeli
negotiatons at the recent NAM Ministerial. He confirmedthat PA President Mahmoud Abbas would likely visitIndonesia
in June.
