1. (C) Pursuant to reftel A, PolCouns called on the
Directorate of International Security and International
Affairs of the Department of Foreign Affairs and requested
reconfirmation of Indonesia's support for Guatemala as
expressed to the Secretary on September 26 (ref. B).
PolCouns's request was taken on board, but there were no
senior enough officials available to make a formal response.
The Director General for Multilateral Affairs had departed on
travel to Turkey.
2. (C) Comment: We believe that Indonesia will honor the
commitment mentioned by Foreign Minister Wirajuda in a
meeting with the Secretary on September 26.
