(u) The Government of Tanzania reaffirmed that it "is
committed to the principle of geographic rotation" for the
selection of Secretary General and "it is Asia's turn." At a
July 18 meeting with Poloff, Ambassador Liberata Mulamula,
Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Multilateral
Division, did not express GOT support for a specific
candidate, but confirmed that Shashi Tharoor of India was
well-received at the African Union summit in Banjul in June.
