RESOLUTION ON DPRK
REF: STATE 112806
(U) Vitus Njiku, head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and
International Cooperation's Security Council Unit, told
Poloff on July 10 that the Government of Tanzania (GOT)
supports the Japanese-drafted UNSC resolution on the DPRK
missile launches, but does not plan to co-sponsor the
resolution. Poloff emphasized the importance of a strong and
unified message to the DPRK and said that the more
co-sponsors the resolution has, the stronger the message.
Njiku then said that he would check with his bosses and get
back to Poloff. In a subsequent phone conversation, Njiku
confirmed that the GOT would not co-sponsor the resolution
"because we don't normally do that." When asked if there was
anything about the resolution that, if changed, would induce
the GOT to co-sponsor, Njiku said "no."
