(U) Post delivered diplomatic note per reftel A on June 1,
and Poloff delivered reftel A demarche to Ambassador Liberata
Mulamula, Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs'
Multilateral Division, on June 12. Mulamula said she did not
foresee a problem with the government of Tanzania (GOT)
supporting Ruth Wedgwood's reelection to the United Nations
Human Rights Committee. Mulamula said that Tanzania did not
plan to put forward a candidate to that committee, but noted
that Tanzanian Mohammed Yussuf is a candidate for reelection
to the International Joint Inspection Unit. Mulamula said
the GOT attaches great importance to Yussuf's candidacy and
looks to the USG for its support. Post received a diplomatic
note requesting USG support for Yussuf's candidacy June 7, as
reported reftel B.
