(C) In its public statements, the Danish government will
continue to assign responsibility for the Lebanon conflict to
Hizballah and will steadfastly avoid any suggestion of an
unconditional cease-fire, Danish MFA Deputy Head of
Department for the Middle East and North Africa Henrik Hahn
assured us July 21. Hahn allowed that the Danish government
has been consumed with the (admirably successful) evacuation
of its citizens from Lebanon and that the absence of many
senior officials during the vacation season has also
contributed to Denmark's relatively low public profile on the
conflict. That said, Hahn declared that his government fully
supports the G-8 statement and will continue to work within
the UN Security Council and the European Union to help
promote ongoing diplomatic efforts. He indicated that our
reftel message will be useful in preparing Denmark's remarks
for UNSC discussions.
