(C) Denmark sees Transnistria's proposed independence
referendum as unhelpful and damaging to ongoing 5 2
negotiations. MFA Desk Officer for Moldova Albert Bruun
Birnbaum told PolOff July 19 that Denmark shares U.S. views
provided in ref points and added that the Danes are puzzled
by Russian motives in connection with this latest
development. Birnbaum said Denmark was already discussing
with EU partners how to respond. PolOff urged Birnbaum to
look for opportunities for Denmark to register its concerns
with Russian contacts.
