AGREEMENT
REF: (A) STATE 056169 (B) 05 STATE 220707
1. Per reftel requests, post delivered a diplomatic note to the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka and to the Director General
of Civil Aviation, designating all U.S. carriers to operate
scheduled and charter transportation on the US route(s),under the
United States-Sri Lanka Air Transport Agreement, and requesting on
the basis of reciprocity a note from the Government of Sri Lanka
that designates all Sri Lankan carriers.
2. The Foreign Ministry has responded informing that Sri Lanka is
agreeable in principle to make on the basis of reciprocity, a
similar blanket designation of all carriers of Sri Lanka, once such
carriers are authorized to operate scheduled or charter air
transportation.
3. We have sent by fax copies of the relevant diplomatic notes to
Laurence Jones at EB/TRA/AN and DOT's David Modesitt.
