SUBJECT: CALCUTTA EAC MEETING JULY 14, 2006
REF: A) STATE 115373 B) CALCUTTA 299
1. (SBU) In response to ref. A, on July 14 post convened an EAC
meeting to discuss the local security implications of escalating
hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah.
2. (SBU) The Consulate has received no information indicating
the possibility of violent protests or threats in Calcutta or
elsewhere in the consular district. The EAC decided not to issue
a warden message and will continue to monitor the situation.
3. (SBU) Local reaction to the events detailed in ref. A has
been negligible. Increasing hostilities in the Middleast could
prompt peaceful demonstrations similar to the one reported in
ref. B. Police contacts report no increased activity or threats
in reaction to the events. Post will continue to monitor the
situation. At this time post recommends no change in warden
message.
