1. (U) MFA Director Cristina Gaginsky and Deputy Director
Andreea Chiriac received reftel A demarche from PolOff on
June 16. They confirmed that Romania intends to vote for the
adoption of the third protocol. Second Secretary Carmen
Burlacu, who will be in Geneva for the conference, took
specific note of the likely attempt by the Organization of
the Islamic Conference to try to adjourn the meeting. The
three of them confirmed that Romania would oppose such a
move. They also confirmed that full powers have been given to
their mission in Bern "to sign the protocol shortly." Chiriac
also said that Romania would support the admittance of both
the Palestinian Red Crescent Society and Israel's Magen David
Adom at the same time.
