SUBJECT: SLOVAKIA RELEASES STRONG STATEMENT ON IRANIAN
NUCLEAR PROGRAM

REF: BRATISLAVA 309

1. (U) The Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs released
the following statement on Irans pursuit of a nuclear
weapons program on April 13. The original text is
available in Slovak at www.mzv.sk:

BEGIN UNOFFICIAL TRANSLATION:

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the Slovak
Republic is following with apprehension activity in Irans
s
nuclear facilities, and completely shares the misgivings of
the international community, which arose on the basis of
other pronouncements by the Iranian President Mahmud
Ahmadinedzad. The information that Iranian nuclear experts
were able to create nuclear fuel through a methodological
process indicates that the efforts of the International
Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the permanent members of
the UN Security Council (UNSC) have been ignored by Iran.

Iran ignored the constructive stance offered by the
international community and chose instead a path of
confrontation. Such behavior is not in accord with the
resolution of the IAEA Board of Governors of February 4,
2006 and likewise ignores the challenge addressed to Iran
by a vote of the UNSC on March 29, 2006.

If Iran will continue in these activities, Slovakia will
act with its partners on the UNSC and in the Board of
Governors of the IAEA, to consider further diplomatic
steps. The MFA of the Slovak Republic is convinced that
only a unified and uncompromising stance by the
international community can convince the Iranian regime to
accept a constructive position and return to the
negotiating table.

END UNOFFICIAL TRANSLATION.
