1. (C) CDA delivered reftel demarche April 18 to MFA Acting
Political Director Stefan Rozkopal, Director for Disarmament,
OSCE, and Counter-Terrorism Karol Mistrik, and UNSC
Coordinator Marcel Pesko. They affirmed that Slovakia's
position is clear: Slovakia supports a strong Chapter VII
resolution, and is even supportive of enforcement measures
like sanctions, but feels that anything beyond a Chapter VII
resolution would be a difficult negotiation at this point.
Rozkopal said that Slovakia is not planning any bilateral
action against Iran, but prefers to work in concert with the
international community. Mistrik highlighted the recent
Slovak statement on Iran (to be reported septel) deploring
Iran's continued enrichment efforts and expressing readiness
to discuss further steps, including a Chapter VII resolution
in the UNSC.
2. (C) COMMENT: Our Slovak interlocutors specifically
requested -- and we believe it would be useful to pass on --
read-out from Iran discussions at the April 19 G-8 PolDirs
meeting in Moscow.
