1. (SBU) In response to the Ambassador's request for
information regarding five missing Uzbek asylum seekers (ref
b),the Kyrgyz Procurator General's office wrote to us on
October 10 that law enforcement officials in Osh were
continuing to investigate the cases, but there was no new
information regarding the whereabouts of the missing asylum
seekers. The letter added that the Procurator General's
office had not received any extradition requests and that no
incidents of kidnapping had been registered in Osh. In
mid-September, however, an official in the Procurator
General's office had told Poloff that information had been
developed on two of the missing asylum seekers, and that a
breakthrough was expected soon (ref a).

2. (SBU) UNHCR informs us that they have not received any
further information from the Procurator General's office
since initially approaching them for assistance. Post will
continue to report any additional information received from
Kyrgyz authorities and UNHCR regarding the location of the
missing asylum seekers.
