Serbian President Goes to Podgorica
--------------
1. (U) Serbian President Tadic met in Podgorica with
Montenegrin PM Djukanovic, President Vujanovic, and
opposition leader Bulatovic on May 27. Tadic stated that
the GOS, including Prime Minister Kostunica, would
recognize the final results of the referendum. Tadic and
Vujanovic agreed that relations between Montenegro and
Serbia should be re-defined as soon as possible.
2. (SBU) Vujanovic's Chief of Staff, Ivan Lekovic, noted
that Vujanovic returned the call on May 30, visiting Tadic
in Belgrade. Lekovic told Consulate that the GoS is
expected to recognize both the final referendum results (by
June 1),and the Parliament's Declaration of Independence,
which the GoM hopes to have adopted on June 3.
PM Djukanovic Goes to Brussels
--------------
3. (U) PM Djukanovic traveled to Brussels May 29, meeting
with EU FM Solana, EU Enlargement Commissioner Rehn, and
Belgian FM Karel de Gucht, currently the OSCE Chairman-in-
Office. Solana, saying Djukanovic has a "brilliant career
ahead of him," congratulated the Montenegrin people on a
"free and fair" and "impressive" referendum vote. Rehn said
that the EU looked forward to completing a Stabilization
and Accession Agreement (SAA) with Montenegro by the end of
2006. De Gucht said he saw no obstacles to Montenegro
quickly joining the OSCE.
