(C) The DCM informed MFA Director General for North American
Affairs Liu Jieyi March 16 of the upcoming release of the
President's 2006 National Security Strategy Report, stressing
the U.S. desire that the PRC hear a preview of the report
directly from us. Liu thanked the DCM for the advance notice
of the report, which he said would be studied closely by
Chinese officials and experts. Poloff subsequently faxed a
copy of reftel points to one of Liu's assistants, who
commented approvingly that the points made no reference to
China.
