SUBJECT: THAILAND SAYS EAS STATEMENT NON-CONTROVERSIAL

REF: STATE 190890

Econoff spoke on November 28 to Ms. Sirinart Chaimun, Director of
Multilateral Trade Negotiations at Ministry of Commerce, and
presented talking points from reftel. Sirinart responded that the
RTG believed the East Asia Summit members planned to issue a
statement reinforcing the APEC leaders statement. Although the RTG
had yet to see a draft of the statement, Sirinart said she had seen
no indication that the EAS statement would include any specific
references to the U.S. or call on the U.S. to make any further
concessions to revive the Doha Round.
