1. (C) DCM delivered reftel demarche on Nov. 2 to Pg. Hj.
Alihashim, Acting Director of the Department for Bilateral
Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and
Trade (MOFAT). Alihashim said that Brunei took its
responsibilities seriously to uphold UNSC resolutions. He
noted that Brunei has effectively no trade relations with the
DPRK and has no/no domestic industry producing military goods
subject to the sanctions. That said, Alihashim said that he
would ensure that our message was passed to the relevant
ministries and agencies of the GoB to help ensure that Brunei
could not be used as a transit point for sanctioned items.
