On 4/12, PolOff delivered reftel letter to MFA Human Rights
Director Francisco Barreiro, and drew from reftel talking
points to encourage the GOP to make a similar pledge
regarding membership of the UN Human Rights Council.
Barreiro said he would forward the letter to FM Rachid, and
that the MFA would study the idea of making a pledge
regarding membership. Barreiro noted that the often negative
tone of multilateral human rights discussions is
counterproductive, and that the GOP places a high priority on
converting those discussions into a more positive and
constructive dialogue.
