In response to reftel request, post is providing requested list of
nine USAID programs that appear to meet reftel guidelines:


1. Project Name: Central Asian Program on AIDS Control in
Vulnerable Populations

Recipient: Republican AIDS Center and the National Coordinating
Committee.

Project Description: To develop and test approaches and models for
increasing coverage of vulnerable HIV/AIDS populations.

IT Component: Provision of computers for the Republican AIDS Center
and web design for the National Coordinating Committee on AIDS, TB,
and Malaria.

FY 06 Funding: $150,000 (Note: Activities are pending GOTX approval
of MOU.)



2. Project Name: High Information Systems Zdrav Plus II

Recipient: Two Central Raion (Regional) Hospitals and the Ministry
of Health Information Centre, Maternal and Child Health Hospital in
Ashgabat.

Project Description: To improve internal hospital management,
statistic reporting, and implementation of health finance reforms.

IT Component: Provision of 6 computers and printers as well as one
training program on data analysis and computer programming.

FY 05 Funding: $424,624
FY 06 Funding: $358,457



3. Project Name: Partnerships (AIHA)

Recipient: Family Medicine Training Centers (Three centers:
Polyclinic No. 1, Railway Hospital and Maternal and Child Health
Centre).

Project Description: To improve the quality of medical care by
training obstetrician gynecologists in family medicine approaches.

IT Component: Provision of 7 computers, 3 printers, 2 scanner and
internet connectivity.

FY 05 Funding: $422,863
FY 06 Funding: $0



4. Project Name: Partnerships (AIHA)

Recipient: State Medical Institute, Health Managers Training
Centre.

Project Description: Retraining health managers and training
medical students in health finance and health management.

IT Component: Provision of 10 computers, 1 copy machine, 2 printer,
and 1 LCD projector, two modems for connection to Internet.

FY 05 Funding: $422,863
FY 06 Funding: $0



5. Project Name: Tuberculosis (TB) Control program in Central Asia
(Project HOPE)

Recipient: National TB Center, and TB Hospitals in Mary and
Turkmenbashy are involved in the pilot program.

Project Description: Provision of assistance to the expansion of
the World Health Organization-recommended TB Directly Observed
Treatment Short Course (DOTS) National program in Turkmenistan.

IT Component: Provision of 5 computers (one of which is installed
at Internet library for TB specialists) as well as computer training
for 10 people.

FY 05 Funding: $493,537
FY 06 Funding: $461,461



6. Project Name: Blood Safety Project (CDC)

Recipient: Republican Blood Centers (each welayat/province in

ASHGABAT 00000985 002 OF 002


Turkmenistan).

Project Description: To reduce transmission of AIDS and other blood
transmitting infections through donor blood.

IT Component: Provision of 5 computers and printers.

FY 05 Funding: $120,000
FY 06 Funding: $10,000



7. Project Name: TB electronic surveillance and case management
(CDC)

Recipient: TB Center in Ashgabat.

Project Description: to improve data entry and data management on
TB cases.

IT Component: Provision of 2 computers and 2 printers.

FY 05 Funding: $52,000
FY 06 Funding: $51,000



8. Project Name: Civil Society Support Initiative (Counterpart
Consortium)

Recipient: Civil Society Support Centers (CSSC),and Turkmenistan
NGOs, community-based organizations, initiative groups, volunteers,
community leaders and activists.

Project Description: To strengthen the democratic culture of
citizens and institutions in Turkmenistan.

IT Component: Providing free access to internet and email in 3
Civil Society Support Centers (CSSC) and 7 Resource Centers (RC)
throughout the country including remote areas. Providing free
training programs and consultations on topics, including webpage
design and use of internet resources. Approximately 50 computers
allotted for clients.

FY 05 Funding: $316,924
FY 06 Funding: $958,306



9. Project Name: Business and Economic Education (CARANA/Union of
Economists)

Recipient: Union of Economists of Turkmenistan.

Project Description: Strengthening the resource base of Union of
Economists of Turkmenistan.

IT Component: Access to Internet on 10 computers for school
teachers and students for conducting Junior Achievement programs,
and also for Union members. Conducting activities such as
Internet-based banking simulation; business ethics with remote
participation feature, modeling economics and management (MESE).
Monthly turnover is 60 people.

FY 05 Funding: $17,065
FY 06 Funding: $0
