1. (C) Per reftel instructions, on June 21 AIT Econ Chief
hand delivered to Terry Ting, Deputy Secretary General,
Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO),
the written request for assurances in subject case. Mr. Ting
said that he would consult with the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs and the Chung Shan Institute of Science and
Technology (CSIST) immediately and prepare the required
assurances. Econ Chief emphasized to Mr. Ting that the case
will be automatically denied if AIT does not receive written
assurances from TECRO within 90 days and that the contents of
the letter are considered confidential information.


2. (U) Also on June 21, AIT/Econ received a fax from the
local agent of Malibu Research Associates requesting the
status of the delivery of the request for assurances. On
June 22, we advised the agent that we delivered the request
for assurances to the Taiwan authorities on June 21.
Malibu's local agent is Teltai (Taiwan) Ltd., and is located
at: 7Fl., No.3, Lane 146, Sec. 4, Chung Hsiao E. Rd., Taipei
106, Taiwan.
