1. Post received written notification (dated June 8, 2006)
from the Commission of the African Union wishing to appoint
the Honorable Ms. Amina Salum Ali as the African Union
Representative in its office in Washington.


2. The text of the letter (dated June 8, 2006) addressed
to the Embassy from the Commission of the African Union is as
follows:

Begin text:

The Commission of the African Union presents its compliments
to the Embassy of the United States of American in Addis
Ababa and has the honor to inform the latter of the wish to
appoint the Honorable Ms. Amina Salum Ali as the African
Union Representative in its office in Washington.

The Commission wishes to indicate that she has served the
Government of the Republic of Tanzania and Zanzibar
Revolutionary government in different capacities for a long
period. In particular, she has served as Minister of State
for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Minister
of State for Regional Cooperation, Minister of Finance in the
Zanzibar, Revolutionary Government and is currently Minister
of State in the Chief Ministers Office in Zanzibar. She is
also a member of the Zanzibar House of Representatives.

The Commission desires that she should assume duty as early
as possible and should appreciate it if the Government of the
United States of American would give its consist early to
this nomination

The commission of the African Union avails itself of this
opportunity to renew the Embassy of the United States of
America the assurance of its highest consideration.
