1. (SBU) EconPolCouns delivered reftel demarche on August 31
to Ralph Scheide, the assistant secretary-level head of the
Austrian Foreign Ministry's Middle East and Africa division.
2. (S) Austrian President Heinz Fischer would attend the
High Level Event in New York, Scheide said. The Syrians had
not yet approached Austria regarding meetings in New York,
However, Scheide said the Austrians were well aware of the
issues involved, and shared our goals regarding Syrian
behavior.
