SUBJECT: EMBASSY SANAA EAC MEETING - 8/14/05

Classified By: DCM Nabeel Khoury for Reasons 1.4(b) and (d).

(U) 1. Embassy EAC convened on 8/14/05 to assess the current
security situation in Yemen. EAC was chaired by the
Ambassador and included the DCM and representatives from
POLE, POLM, RSO, CONS, PD, MGT, DAO, OMC, FPD, LEGATT, USAID,
and CCE-Y.

(U) 2. RSO reviewed the status of official Mission travel
to the Marib and al-Jawf governorates, explaining that travel
is still permitted through the normal request and
coordination process. RSO also reminded EAC members that
travel to Wadi Dahar, although within the Sana'a municipal
checkpoints, still requires travel coordination with RSO and
MOI.

(S) 3. EAC members then discussed reports that two regional
tribes have approached President Saleh and stated that they
may take actions including, but not limited to kidnapping,
against Americans in country if Sheikh Mohammed Ali Hassan
al-Moyaed is not released by the United States. EAC members
agreed to pursue this matter for further discussion.

(U) 4. EAC members also reviewed and concurred with DAO's
request for a new heavily armored vehicle to be dispatched
for their use at post.
