1. (C) DCM called MFA Secretary General Omar Hilali October
24 regarding the Moroccan employees reported to Embassy Amman
as missing in Iraq. The DCM expressed concern for the
missing individuals and assured Hilali of U.S. desire to
cooperate to the extent possible on this matter. Hilali said
that the two missing individuals are not/not Moroccan
diplomats as reported reftel. Rather, they are locally
engaged technical staff (chauffeurs). He said that he has no
further information concerning their whereabouts or status.
He appreciated U.S. concern and said he would welcome any
further information concerning the individuals that we are
able to develop.
2. (C) Embassy would appreciate receiving any additional
information from Baghdad, Amman or Washington that may become
available that we are able to share with the GOM.
