1. (U) This is an action request for NP/RA. See para 3.


2. (S) The GOI has accepted the offer to have a briefing on
Iran's weaponization program (Ref A),MEA Joint Secretary
(Americas) Dr. S. Jaishankar told A/DCM on August 31.
However, because of sensitivities about the visit of Iran's
top nuclear negotiator, Ali Larijani, to New Delhi, August
30-31 on the eve of Foreign Minister Natwar Singh's first
visit to Iran, Sept 2-5, Jaishankar asked that the US
briefing be scheduled for September 5. MEA Joint Secretaries
for the Americas (Jaishankar); Disarmament and International
Security (Hamid Ali Rao); and Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran
(Dilip Sinha) would likely attend the briefing.


3. (S) Mission will also request a debriefing from MEA on
Larijani's visit.


4. (S) Action Request: Please confirm that the team is
available on September 5. Also, please let Post know the
classification level of the briefing and approximately how
much time should be scheduled for the presentations. Slug
