1. On January 2, the GOK officially announced that it had
lifted its ban on imports of U.S. beef from all states
except/except Washington, effective December 22, 2004. The
ban, imposed in late 2003 following the discovery of a
BSE-infected cow in Washington State, prevented the import of
all U.S. fresh, chilled and frozen beef and beef byproducts
into Kuwait. An informal translation of the ministerial
order follows in para 2.


2. BEGIN TEXT OF MINISTERIAL ORDER.

Ministerial Order No. 376 for the Year 2004

It has been decided:

Article 1. The ban is to be lifted on the import of all
kinds of fresh, chilled and frozen beef and its byproducts of
U.S. origin except from the State of Washington.

Article 2. Ministerial Order No. 363 for the year 2003
concerning the ban on the import of all kinds of fresh,
chilled and frozen beef and its byproducts of U.S. origin is
to be revoked.

Article 3. Concerned officials are to implement this order
and enforce it from the date of its issuance and publish it
in the Official Gazette.
