1. On May 6, Poloff met with Angella Brown, Deputy Director,
International Organizations Department, Ministry of Foreign
Affairs and Foreign Trade, to deliver reftel dipnote, talking
points, and accompanying c.v. of Thomas Buergenthal. Brown
welcomed the information and responded that she would review
it, but deferred to MFAFT's permanent secretary, who she said
will make the final decision.
2. On June 16, Poloff contacted Pamela Ingleton,
International Organizations Department, to discuss a separate
issue, and used the opportunity to follow up on the earlier
demarche about ICJ elections. When asked whether the GOJ
would support the U.S. candidate, Ingleton replied that she
would not be able to comment specifically on the matter until
the date of the ICJ elections is nearer.
