SUBJECT: BOMB EXPLODES NEAR BUS STOP IN ISTANBUL



1. (SBU) Summary. On Friday, 11/18/05 at approximately 1830
hours a bomb exploded near a bus stop in the Buyukcekmece
District of Istanbul. One person was killed and as many as
twelve have been reported injured. Two vehicles were
reported damaged in the explosion. The police suspect the
PKK to be responsible for the bombing.


2. (U) On Friday, 11/18/05 a bomb exploded inside of a
garbage can near a bus stop approximately 200 meters from
the main entrance to the Tatilya Entertainment Center
(amusement park) in the Beylikduzu neighborhood of the
Buyukcekmece District of Istanbul. The site of the bombing
is approximately 15 kilometers west of Ataturk International
airport. At approximately 1850 hours, a member of the Air
Postal Office in Istanbul drove by the scene and telephoned
the RSO to report. The APO member reported seeing a mangled
automobile several ambulances and numerous Gendarme troops at
the scene. The explosion was later reported in the media
and confirmed by the Governor's office.


3. (SBU) According to the media the Istanbul Governor's
office reported that the IED was composed of A-4 and was
detonated by a remote control device. The Turkish National
Police Chief of the Buyukcekmece District advised the
security staff that the Gendarme is conducting the
investigation and that the PKK is suspected in the attack.
