RESOLUTION
REF: SECSTATE 30251
PolOff delivered reftel demarche and draft resolution to MFA
Assistant Director for Multilateral and UN Affairs, Luis
Carranza, on February 24. Carranza told PolOff that
Guatemala would send a large delegation to the Commission on
the Status of Women, and offered to share the resolution with
delegation members during a February 25 meeting. Carranza
did not comment specifically on our proposed draft
resolution, but said he anticipated the delegation would hear
many worthy resolutions, one of which it might be willing to
co-sponsor. PolOff also provided a copy to Gabriela Nuez of
the Women's Secretariat, a presidential advisor on women's
issues and the official delegation leader. While both
Carranza and Nuez expressed interest in reading the draft
resolution, neither responded to PolOff's requests for
specific comments.
