1. Summary of Significant Events:

A. The U.S. Mission's Fourth of July party kicked off this
quarter with approx 1,200 guests attending the event at the
Ambassador's residence. Not to be outdone, the grand opening
of the photovoltaic system at the U.S. Mission was another
heavily attended event, bringing in media and Swiss
dignitaries from around the area to witness the new
eco-friendly Mission. Other events for the quarter included
the OSAC meeting in Zurich and a protest against the U.S.
participation in Iraqi. The demonstrators attempted to move
the protest to the front of the U.S. Mission, but the Swiss
police were prepared and ensured that the protestors did not
impede Mission operations. Visas Viper meetings were
conducted and monthly reports submitted (Geneva 1837, 2371,
2347).

Visits to Geneva included Ambassador Portman, head of the
U.S. Trade Organization (25-26 Aug). The Public Key
Infrastructure (PKI) team visited Post 06-13 September. As
with every season, personnel changes take place. RSO Don
Weinberg PCSd to Washington on 26 August. The new Regional
Security Officer, Mark Bandik, arrived at Post (Geneva 2356).
ESO Gabriel Kemeny departed for Washington 25 August, and
ESO Greg Battistone arrived 17 August from Pretoria.
