SUBJECT: IRISH SUPPORT FOR COMPREHENSIVE CONVENTION ON
INTERNATIONAL TERRORISM (CCIT)

REF: SECSTATE 127261

On July 15, DCM delivered talking points to Department of
Foreign Affairs UN/International Terrorism and Illicit Drugs
Director John Deady and Assistant Legal Advisor Lisa Walshe.
Deady said that the GOI supports the Comprehensive Convention
on International Terrorism (CCIT) Coordinator's draft and is
committed to finalizing the text. Walshe, who will attend
the consultations in New York in July on behalf of the GOI,
commented that negotiators at the thirteenth convention
(Nuclear Terrorism Convention) faced issues similar to those
remaining with the CCIT, but were able to manage consensus
and are likely to do so again during the upcoming
consultations in New York.
