1. (U) Pol/Econ delivered demarche per reftel 30 June to
Americas Desk Officer in the Department of Bilateral
Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Omar
Djama. Djama said he would be sure to pass the information to
the Minister of Foreign Affairs, who left for the African
Union Summit in Libya on 29 June. He added that while
Djibouti will take the U.S. position into consideration, it
would have to wait to make a decision until there was a
position from both the African Union (AU) and the Arab League
(AL). At that point, Djama said, Djibouti would have to weigh
the similarities and differences between the AU and AL
positions.
