1. According to local press reports, there have been 18
unsolved bombings in Bangladesh since 1999 (when the Awami
League ruled) that have killed 140 persons and injured
thousands more. Seven of those incidents were in Sylhet
district, where former AL finance minister Kibria was killed
on January 27. Seven of the incidents involved the Awami
League, and ten involved minority religious places, cinema
halls, or cultural sites viewed by extremists as un-Islamic.
Six of the incidents occurred in 2004.


2. The 18 incidents are:

A) Udichi meeting in Jessore on March 6, 1999 (10 killed)

B) Ahmadiyya mosque in Khulna on October 8, 1999 (8 killed)

C) Communist Party of Bangladesh meeting in Dhaka on January
20, 2001 (9 killed)

D) Ramna Batomul in Dhaka (10 killed)

E) Baniar Char Church in Gopalganj on June 3, 2001 (10 killed)

F) AL office in Narayanganj (21 killed)

G) AL election rally on September 23, 2001 (8 killed)

H) AL meeting in Sunamganj on September 26, 2001 (4 killed)

I) Cinema hall in Satkhira on September 28, 2002 (3 killed)

J) Four cinema halls in Mymensigh on December 6, 2002 (21
killed)

K) Paglapir Mazar in Tangail on January 17, 2003 (8 killed)

L) Shahjalal mazar in Sylhet on January 12, 2004 (5 killed)

M) Mazar in Sylhet on May 21, 2004 (3 killed)

N) AL Women's meeting in Sylhet on August 7, 2004 (1 killed)

O) Cinema hall Sylhet on August 5, 2004 (1 killed)

P) AL meeting in Sylhet on August 7, 2004 (1 killed)

Q) AL rally in Dhaka on August 21, 2004 (21 killed)

R) AL rally in Habiganj, Sylhet (Kibria) on January 27, 2005
