1. (U) This cable updates previous reporting regarding USG
efforts to eliminate potentially dangerous radio
transmissions by the Venezuelan Navy on frequencies reserved
for aeronautical stations.


2. (U) Following our demarche to Layla Macc Adan, Director of
International Relations of CONATEL, the GOV's national
telecommunications commission (Ref. A),post received an
e-mail from Macc Adan on the issue. According to Macc Adan,
CONATEL had investigated the issue and taken "corrective
measures" to end the transmissions in question. Post was
also provided with a copy of a letter that was sent from
CONATEL Director General, Alvin Pereira, to the FCC and the
ITU on February 21 in which he relayed the same information
regarding the resolution to the issue.


3. (U) Post does not expect to receive any further
communication from the GOV on this issue. Department is
requested to advise post if interference has in fact ceased.
