We delivered reftel dipnote and demarche on July 7 to
Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) UN and
Commonwealth Affairs Director Nicholas Turner and Executive
Officer Gemma Huggins. Huggins said that the GOA should
have an agreed interagency response available after the first
week of September when officials from DFAT and the Department
of Environment and Heritage (DEH) consult in advance of the
General Assembly meeting in October (septel). During a July
8 follow-up conversation, DEH staff suggested that U.S.
officials raise reftel demarche with DEH Director David
Walker at the July 10-17 meeting of the World Heritage
Committee in Durban. Walker is staying at the Durban Hilton,
