1. (SBU) Visiting EB/CBA Frank Mermoud and Econoff conveyed
reftel demarche on November 14 to Dr. Khaled Ismail, Senior
Adviser to the Egyptian Minister of Communications and
Information Technology. Dr. Ismail, who departed on November
15 to join the Egyptian delegation in Tunis, indicated that
the Egyptian Ministry of Communications and Information
Technology was opposed to placing Internet oversight and
governance under the U.N.


2. (SBU) Additional details from this conversation and
related comments from the Minister on internet governance
were sent November 15 via e-mail to EB/CIP (Alan Gibbs).
