1. (SBU) On June 30, the DCM called an Emergency Action
Committee (EAC) meeting to assess the Mission's security
posture in light of upcoming "4th of July" events. These
events include a June 1 flag raising ceremony (Embassy
Compound),a June 2 employee picnic (Embassy Compound),and a
July 4 official concert/reception to be held at the
Paraguayan Central Bank. Post is not aware of any speficic
threats to the U.S. official or unofficial communities in
Paraguay.


2. (SBU) Post has received significant committments from the
National Police to provide extra security at each event. All
events will include extra contract guards and local police.
Metal Detectors will be used and bomb sweeps conducted. A
National Police SWAT team will be standing by for the July
4th event at the Central Bank.
