1. (C) On March 17 we presented reftel Gotovina demarche to
MFA EU Political Affairs Officer Ege Turemen, who agreed that
Croatia should cooperate with the ICTY. Turemen expressed
concern over press articles that suggested the criticisms
against Croatia could spill over and affect Turkish EU
accession negotiations. Turemen expressed relief that the
demarche only discussed Croatia, making no mention of Turkey,
and was pleased that the Embassy made an effort to inform
Turkey along with EU countries.
