(C) In the absence of the Foreign Minister who is traveling
outside Jordan with King Abdullah, DCM contacted Dimai
Haddad, director of the Foreign Minister's private office, to
deliver Ref A points. DCM thanked Haddad for Jordan's
support for the adoption of the Third Additional Protocol,
advised him of current intransigence by some countries in
Geneva blocking consensus, and urged the GOJ to vote in favor
of the Protocol if the matter is brought to a vote. Haddad
replied that Jordan had not changed its position or approach
in favor of the Protocol (Refs B and C),and that he would
contact the Jordanian delegation in Geneva to get an update
on the talks. He also asked that the U.S. Mission in Geneva
continue its close contact with the Jordanians there on this
issue.
