1. Summary: Embassy Amman would like to request
IIP's assistance in recruiting Dr. Samuel Coale of
Wheaton College for three program days during the
period December 2-6, 2005, to address students and
scholars at Jordanian institutions. The speaker's
lectures will include: a lecture with Political
Science and American Studies students and professors
at the American Corner at the University of Jordan,
a round-table discussion at the Center for Strategic
Studies with members and contacts of the Center, a
lecture at the Center for Protection and Freedom of
Journalists with Jordanian journalists and writers
and a lecture for Political Science students at
Yarmouk University in Irbid.

2. The topics of the lectures would be based mainly
on the current state of American Studies, including
a discussion of his recent publication on conspiracy
theories in contemporary history, "Paradigms of
Paranoia: The Culture of Conspiracy in Contemporary
America," as a launching point for a discussion on
how to recognize irresponsible theories and combat
them, using a comparative approach.

3. We understand that the costs of this program will
be shared by both hosting regional posts.

4. The program officer will be PDO Steve Ramirez,
