1. Per reftel, Post reports that there do not appear to be
any products in Ghana that would be affected by the EU's
proposals on Geographic Indications. Ghana currently imports
most of the types of products listed reftel and on the EC
website, including many such products from South Africa.
Ghana mainly exports primary agriculture, forestry, and
mining products, e.g., cocoa, timber, gold, bauxite. It is
developing a variety of non tradtional agriculture
(horticulture) exports, such as pineapple and mango, that are
not grown in Europe. A number of Ghanaian and foreign
companies are investing in value added enterprises,
especially in agri-business, and often with GoG or donor
assistance. However, their future products will be primarily
processed (canned or bottled) fruits, vegetables, and juices,
and are unlikely to resemble the products of most interest to
EU member countries. Regards.
