(C) Pol Chief discussed reftel points March 14 with MFA
Assistant Under Secretary for Political Affairs Tariq Al
Haidan. Al Haidan said that he appreciated receiving the
text of the Secretary's March 11 statement supporting the
EU-3. "We support all the steps that help the area stay safe
from weapons of mass destruction," Al Haidan said. "These
are the right steps to keep Iran from moving ahead with its
nuclear program." Al Haidan thanked the USG for its role in
the Gulf, and more particularly for U.S. efforts vis-a-vis
Iran. "We hope Iran will respond to this step and cooperate
with the EU-3 in this matter," he said. "We are worried
about the future of this area. We have enough conflict in
this region."
