1. This is an action request, please see para 3.


3. Per request reftel, Post delivered diplomatic note and
attachments on January 12, 2004. On August 4, Post received
a diplomatic note response, indicating Maldives was in
agreement with the proposed text. The note further
acknowledges the Arrangement will come into force thirty days
after this note is received by the Committee for the
Implementation of Textiles Agreements of the United States.
GORM has requested notification of receipt of this note by
the committee.


3. Action Request: Text of the GORM diplomatic note is
provided in para four below. Post will also fax a copy to
SA/INS. Post requests that this note be passed to the
Committee for the Implementation of Textile Agreements and,
per GORM request, we would appreciate notification of receipt
of the note by the committee.


4. Begin Text of GORM Diplomatic Note:

Reference: 9C1) WE-7-B/2004/34

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of
Maldives presents its compliments to the Embassy of the
United States of America to the Republic of Maldives and has
the honour to refer to the Embassy,s Note No.002 dated 23
January 2004 and Ministry,s Note No. (C1) WE-7-B/2004/31
dated 19 July 2004 regarding the proposed Visa and Electronic
Visa Information System (ELVIS) Arrangement between the
Government of the Republic of Maldives and the Government of
the United States concerning apparel made of textiles.

The Ministry has the hounour to state that the
Government of Maldives is in agreement with the proposed text
of the abovementioned Arrangement. Therefore, the present
Note and the Embassy,s above referred Note will constitute
an agreement on a visa and ELVIS Arrangement between the two
Governments.

Further, the Arrangement will come into force thirty
days after this Note is received by the Committee for the
Implementation of Textiles Agreements of the United States,
as stated in the Embassy,s Note and the proposed text.
Hence, the Ministry would like to request the Embassy for a
notification of receipt of this Note by the Committee.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of
Maldives avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the
Embassy of the United States of America to the Republic of
Maldives the assurances of its highest consideration.
