1. (SBU) On August 22, DCM talked to MFA Assistant Under
Secretary for Political Affairs Tariq Al-Haidan to ask

whether the MFA had a response to our invitation to the
BMENA forum preparatory meeting (reftels). Al-Haidan said
that he had passed the message on to Deputy Prime
Minister/Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sheikh
Hamdan bin Zayed Al-Nahyan (HBZ),currently out of the
country. He added that the UAEG needed a few more days to
prepare a formal response.
2. (SBU) Informally, however, Al-Haidan said that Foreign
Minister Rashed Abdullah Al-Noaimi would represent the UAEG
at the UNGA and would also attend the BMENA meeting. Al-
Haidan added that he expected MFA Undersecretary Abdullah
Rashid Al-Noaimi to serve as the Under Secretary level
coordinator.
